The
Outside

|
The
south colonnade was built for one purpose:
To bring the inside - outside.
|

|
The
colonnade offers the perfect scenario for bringing guests into the
magnificent grounds from the main hallway, perfect for a reception
area and for sipping champagne on the lawn at the beginning of a
magnificent party.
|
The design
of the house attempted to eradicate visual barriers between inside
and outside, as shown by the portico ceilings with its magnificent
paintings on canvas panels echoing the rooms indoors.
The trend
of painting frescoes on exterior walls also followed throughout
the design of the mansion, the National Trust take many pains
to preserve these original and quite fantastic paintings
|

|
In
keeping with the social brilliance of the first Sir Francis whose
ideas were given such free rein in the mid 1700s, West Wycombe is
predominantly designed around the concept of pleasure.
|

|
As
you can see, the use of creative lighting and effects can dramatically
alter the initial impression and overall ambience of any part of
the house, this means that a completely different effect can always
be produced for each and every event.
